Lot Essay

As Vice-Prime Minister of the Shah of Iran in the 1960’s and the 1970’s and acquired directly from the artist in 1972 by the current owner’s father, Mr. Rezai, the present work is a true testament to the patronage of the arts in Iran. This charming canvas, painted by renowned Iranian calligrapher Reza Mafi, has strong sentimental value and remained in the Rezai family’s collection after their exile in 1979.
