Lot Essay

Succeeding the revered reference 1518 and 2499, reference 3970 was launched in 1986 and perpetuated the legacy of Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronographs. Heir to the 2499, the 3970 shared the unmistakable design and feel of the previous reference, while being smaller in size and ingeniously incorporating a new 24 hour and leap year indication to its dial. Furthermore, the reference was the first to incorporate a Lemania caliber, instead of the Valjoux caliber of its predecessors.

Throughout its 19 years of production, the 3970 was made in four series and was replaced in 2004 by reference 5970. The present wristwatch being part of the 3rd series, it is estimated that only 200 timepieces were manufactured in white gold.

Preserved in excellent overall condition, the present wristwatch is furthermore offered with its accessories.
