The Daytona reference 6239 offered here for sale features a very rare an unusual Paul Newman dial without luminous dots. Further to our researches to authenticate the dial we noticed that a few similar pieces, without luminous dots, were delivered to Japan at the beginning of the 70’s. As a result, we could assume that a special batch of the reference 6239 was ordered without the luminous material especially for the country of the rising sun, probably to minimize the tritium incidence on the watch’s wearer. However the luminous indication remained on hands to allow the owner to see the time, slightly less precisely, in the dark.
After a close and meticulous microscope inspection of the watch there are absolutely no traces of any previous luminous indexes on this dial as clearly noticeable on the below detailed images. This dial configuration is very rare and so far only a handful of similar piece are known on the collector market.
