Nicolas-Jean Marchand (1697-1757) received his maîtrise before 1738. A similar commode by Marchand is the the Musée Carnavalet, Paris. Marchand is best known for his use of lacquer, working with Gilles Joubert (1689-1775) who supplied furniture to Louis XV, most notably a pair of petit commodes for château de Fontainebleau, now in the Wallace Collection, London.
