MB&F. A CUTE AND INTERESTING GOLD-PLATED LIMITED EDITION SKELETONISED ROBOT DESK CLOCK
MB&F. A CUTE AND INTERESTING GOLD-PLATED LIMITED EDITION SKELETONISED ROBOT DESK CLOCK

MB&F is best defined by their own “manifesto” which is “an artistic concept laboratory based around a simple idea: to assemble collectives of independent watchmaking professionals to develop radical horological masterpieces. By nurturing teams of talented individuals, harnessing their passion and creativity and crediting each person’s essential role, MB&F uses their synergy to become much greater than the sum of its parts. Respecting tradition, but never constrained by it, we reinterpret traditional, high-quality watchmaking into three-dimensional kinetic sculptures.”Founded by Maximillian Büsser, MB&F gives form and substance to his formidable creative ideas, often nourished by his childhood visions and science fiction fantasies. These three innovative and revolutionary “machines” from MB&F – MusicMachine2, Sherman and Arachnophobia - exemplify the phantasmagorical universe of MB and his friends.Sherman Lot 2814 and Arachnophobia Lot 2815 were both conceived and developed by MB&F and engineered and crafted by L’Epée 1839 – Switzerland's only specialised high-end clock manufacture. Sherman was inspired by founder Maximilian Büsser’s quest for a childhood robot friend and is endowed with a L’Epée 1839 in-line eight-day movement which ensures the display of correct time for more than a week before requiring rewinding. Sherman’s arms are fully articulated and with a push, he can glide on his rubber caterpillar tracks. Arachnophobia’s inspiration was derived from a monumental bronze sculpture of a spider sculpture called Maman, created by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911- 2010) and placed in many locations around the world. With its time-displaying abdomen, the spider, like Sherman, also boasts a power reserve of eight days and its articulated legs can be rotated to stand on a desk or to lay flat and mounted on a wall. MusicMachine2 Lot 2816 with its spaceship design, evocative of Star Trek’s Enterprise is, in fact, a traditional music box which can play 6 melodies. Endowed with beautifully hand-finished pins and cylinders, this machine pays tribute to an invention that dates to the end of the eighteenth century and was created through a collaboration with Reuge, a Swiss music box maker with 150 years of expertise.
