A PAIR OF WUCAI QILIN’ DISHES
WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARKS WITHIN DOUBLE CIRCLES AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1620)
Each is decorated on the interior with a prancing qilin supporting a lantern with hanging banners on its back, surrounded by various treasures and clouds and encircled by a band of foliate meander in the well, the exterior is further decorated with ribbon-tied treasures alternating with lanterns, the foot is encircled by a classic scroll, all within double-line borders.

Compare with two other sets in the Idemitsu Collection, one with figures in a landscape, the other with dragon and phoenix decoration illustrated in Chugoku no Tojii (Chinese Ceramics), Tokyo, 1989, nos. 757 and 760; also see another related example sold at Christie’s New York, 16 September 1998, lot 361.
