First edition of this account of Leguat's voyage from Amsterdam to the Cape including many descriptions of the trees, including the Kasta and “Pavillon” trees as well as trees found on Mauritius Island and on the Cape of Good Hope.

2 volumes, 12mo (165 x 94 mm). Titles printed in red and black, frontispiece to each volume, 31 engraved plates, plans and maps (12 folding) and one folding engraved and letterpress table. (Some scattered spotting on a few leaves, a few folding plates with short tears at folds.) Contemporary calf, later lettering-pieces gilt (hinges starting, some light wear); red quarter morocco slipcase. Provenance: Lady Dorothy Manners (c.1690-1722), Countess of Gainsborough (armorial bookplate dated 1707, signatures on paste-downs); Bridgewater Library (armorial bookplate and small printed shelf label).
