First edition. The charming etched emblems depict quadrupeds.
Part II (of 4 parts), 4to (191 x 142 mm). Engraved title and 100 engraved circular emblems by Hans Sibmacher in the text. (Some light staining, a few marginal repairs.) 20th-century calf, gilt edges (some rubbing, light darkening to edges). Provenance: Earl of Mexborough (bookplate). Adams C-448.
Camerarius, a famous physician and botanist, began in 1596 what later became known as the greatest garden of its time, celebrated in Besler's Hortus Eystettensis 1613. Faber du Faur 668; Landwehr, German 166; Nissen ZBI 792; Praz p. 295; BL STC German C-151.
