Lot Essay

The present Patek Philippe Nautilus 3800 is in excellent overall condition with a beautifully preserved case and dial. Of increasing rarity, such reference, when offered with its original certificate and presentation box, is considered highly collectible.

Throughout a production period of approximately 25 years, the reference 3800/001 can be decomposed between four series:

1st Series until 1988: Calibre 335 SC starting with approximately movement 1’420’000 featuring 28’800 oscillations per minute, 3.35 mm thickness, 29 jewels, note the skeleton calatrava cross on the rotor which is specific to the 1st series calibre.

2nd Series until 1992: Calibre 335SC featuring an improved date corrector system starting with approximately movement no. 1’426’600, 28’800 oscillations per minute, 3.35 mm thickness, 29 jewels

3rd series until 1997: Calibre 330 134 (330 SC) starting with approximately movement no. 1’930’000, 28’800 oscillations per minute, 3.35 mm thickness, 29 jewels

4th series until 2006: Calibre 330 194 (330 SC) starting with approximately movement no: 3’020’000, 21’600 oscillations per minute, 3.35 mm thickness on the first pieces produced featured 29 jewels, most of them counted 30 jewels.

Reference 3800/001 and calibre 335 SC are illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by M. Hubert & A. Banbery, p. 181.
