A LARGE FAMILLE ROSE 'LANDSCAPE' BOWL
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The bowl is colourfully enamelled to the exterior with a continuous scene depicting groups of scholars in conversation in a tree-strewn landscape graced by an architectural complex on one side, and a fisherman in a boat on a tranquil river on the other side. The interior is painted with a mantis amidst blossoms in a lotus pond, encircled by a border of composite floral sprays beneath a gilt rim. The base is plain.
