2 volumes bound in 3, 4° (205 x 155mm). Hebrew, roman and italic types. Vol. I: 4 parts in 2 vols, engraved frontispiece and 16 folding cabalistic plates; Vol. II: 4 parts in one, with engraved frontispiece and folding cabbalistic plate, title printed in red and black. (A few minor marginal tears, occasional staining, spotting and browning.) Contemporary vellum, first 2 vols uniform with title in gilt to spines, spine of Vol. III lettered in ink (extremities rubbed). Provenance: Vols. I and II: Franz Lambert (bookplate) -- Vol. III: 'Liber Abbatie Werdinensis' (early ink inscription on title) -- Ex Bibl. Paulina Monast.' (stamp on title).
FIRST EDITION of a seminal work on the kabbala, 'le plus complet, le plus exact, et le plus sérieux' (Caillet). It was brought together by Knorr von Rosenroth, a Hebraist and ardent student of the kabbala, who saw in it proofs of the doctrine of Christianity. Complete with the rare part 'Liber seu Port Coelorum' and the 'Adumbratio cabbalae Christianae' appended at the end, which was printed by a different shop. A full collation is available upon request.
