4º (197 x 147mm). Large woodcut device on title, woodcut diagrams, historiated initials. (Repaired holes in title where signature erased with slight loss to device, title and following leaf tipped onto front free endpaper, a few quires browned, some light stains and soil marks.) 20th-century quarter calf and brown buckram (light rubbing to spine cap).
Second edition of this popular work, significantly expanding and rewriting the first edition of 1570, earlier issue without the two leaves of errata at end. Padovani’s manual gave instructions for the manufacture and laying out of mural (vertical) and horizontal sundials, and provided extensive tables of declinations for various latitudes with both occidental and oriental examples.
