3 volumes, 2° (330 x 200mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of the author in vol. I, titles in red and black with vignettes, woodcut illustrations, head- and tailpieces, and initials. (Spotting and light dampstaining, a few leaves with marginal repairs including frontispiece, occasional small marginal worming, P3 & P4 misbound in vol. 1.) Contemporary calf, spines gilt (extremities restored, minor worming to spines). Provenance: ‘Johanes Casparus de Hillersperg’ (inscription on title) – unidentified library label on title.

The collected works of ‘Paracelsus’, the important early-modern Swiss physician and alchemist whose writings have had a great influence on areas of modern medicine from psychiatry to toxicology. ‘It is difficult to overrate the effect of Paracelsus’ achievement on the development of medicine and chemistry’ (DSB X, p.311).
