Small 4° (200 x 137mm). Engraved vignette on title by Giovanni Paolo Bianchi, 3 folding plates, woodcut headpieces, historiated initials. (Small stain on A2v, printed shoulder notes shaved.) Modern vellum-backed boards.

AN EXTREMELY RARE PAMPHLET on the 'Great Comet' of 1618, also known as 'the Angry Star' because of its flaring tail, reddish colour and length of duration - it was visible to the naked eye over seven weeks in late 1618 and early 1619. The writer pretends to be a Dane and dates his letter from Uraniborg, 1618. According to ABPC and RBH, only one copy has sold at auction during the past 40 years. Riccardi I(ii) 383.
