The flattened bottle is painted on one side with a lady seated at a calligraphy table, with a two-line inscription and seal, the reverse is inscribed with a poem alluding to the beauty of the lady, signed Ma Shaoxuan.

Lot Essay

An almost identical snuff bottle attributed to the Ma family was in the Collection of Margaret Polack, sold at Bonhams, New York, 24 March 2010, lot 170.
