A CHICKEN-BONE JADE 'BATS' RUYI SCEPTRE
18TH/19TH CENTURY
The thickly-carved sceptre is crisply carved to the ruyi-shaped head with a central shou character below a bat with its wings spread upon a swirled cloud trailing down the upper edge of the head. The shaft is carved with raised bat roundels all reserved on an archaistic c-scroll ground in low relief, terminating with a further bat. The stone is of a white tone with grey veins and an opaque white area.
