Introduced at Baselworld in 2013 for the 50th anniversary of the Daytona, this Daytona model in platinum, soon referred to simply as the “Platona” among enthusiasts, represented the first time the iconic chronograph was offered in the most noble of metals. While the reference 116506 was initially received with mixed opinions from collectors, in the intervening years as the watch found its way into the hands of more and more individuals, the sheer heft of the watch on its bracelet combined with the warm chocolate brown bezel and subsidiary dials against the ice blue background has made this model a key part of the collection of many aficionados.
