Château Mouton-Rothschild 1870
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Bordeauc-bottled, R. Galos label. Corroded, cut capsule. Bin-soiled, damaged label. Level: low-shoulder
Tasting note: Three magnificent bottles, rich, tantalising, spicy and sublime in 1986: Two recently, the first bottled in England in 1874, recorked in 1932: luminous; fragrant, distinctive; sweet, rich, great length, complete: Most recently, rebottled by Whitwham’s in 1981: still fairly deep, ruddy colour; very sweet, bouquet though the touch of a faded old lady, fragrant, held well; very sweet also on the palate; its delicious flavour disguising encroaching acidity. Last tasted September 2005. At best ***** M.B.
