A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER ‘DRAGON’ BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The cover is deeply carved through layers of cinnabar lacquer with three sinuous five-clawed dragons confronting a flaming pearl against a ground of stylised crashing waves. The sides of the box and cover are carved with a band of florette diaper pattern, the interiors and the base applied with a dark brown lacquer.
