LA CONSEILLANTE

The wines of La Conseillante are always among the best in Pomerol and are renowned for their dark fruit flavours and aromas and structure, which is somewhat atypical of Pomerol. The estate is named after Catherine Conseillan who bought the property in the 1730’s. On the highest plateau of that commune, not far from Cheval Blanc in St.-Emilion and Pétrus and L’Evangile in Pomerol, La Conseillante has a high percentage of Merlot, typically 85% and 15% Cabernet Franc in the blend. There’s also great pedigree here: La Conseillante established a reputation in the mid-1700s, the same time the top crus of St.-Emilion were making their names. The ancestors of the Nicolas family who are the current owners acquired the estate in 1871. Since 2004 Jean-Michel Laporte has been the winemaker and estate manager.
