Lot Essay

For a silver casket of similar design and with comparable pierced decoration see Mark Zebrowski, Gold, Silver & Bronze from Mughal India, London, 1997, p.42, fig.15. That example is attributed to Rajasthan or Gujarat, 18th century. Another bass openwork casket sold in these Rooms, 20 October 2016, lot 119. That was catalogued as being from Hyderabad in the Deccan suggesting a similar provenance for ours.
