This elegant, rare and attractive white gold classic Cartier Tank was retailed through the firm’s London boutique indicated by the presence of London import hallmarks on the inside case back dating it to 1975. At this period, few watches were made in white gold, the majority being cased in yellow gold. The present watch also impresses by its well preserved white dial, so hard to find in this condition.
Regarded since its inception as a timeless beauty, the Tank model with its strong Art Deco style has always been perfectly adaptable to reinterpretation for each new era. In the 1970s, the Tank was given a new lease of life with the launch of twelve new models in gold in 1973. The “classic” Tank of which the present watch is a fine white gold example is characterized by its elegant rounded corners, it is descended from the model originally called “Tank à Bords Arrondis” when created in 1922 and dubbed the “Tank L.C.” or Tank Louis Cartier from 1924.
