Part of the early Submariners, the present reference 6536-1 was manufactured in 1955 and is among the most desirable and sought-after examples of the model.
Created in a stainless steel case with a small non-protected crown, the timepiece was manufactured with a rotating bezel with black insert, a black dial with gilt printing, Swiss script and gold hands.
Seen on extremely rare occasions, the dial of this watch is not only preserved in excellent overall condition but features the very rare and coveted red 100/330 depth rating. Appearing on the earliest examples of the reference, such as the present watch with a case back stamped 6536-1 IV. 55 indicating that it was made in the fourth part of 1955.
It can safely be assumed that Rolex tested a rating indication in red, without mentioning feet of meters before finally settling on the white “100 = 330ft” found on later models.
