NOTE:
This album was previously in the collection of Wu Rongguang (1773-1843). According to the colophon by Li Ruiqing (1867-1920), Wu handpicked the outstanding works by Shitao and put together this album, in which date of creation, size and paper texture of each leaf were different. One leaf was dedicated to General Bo Erdu, a good friend of Shitao when he lived in Yinjing (now Beijing) from 1689 to 1692. Bo was proficient in calligraphy and painting and he helped Shitao establish his network of contacts and friends. Their friendship persisted through correspondence and artistic exchange.
