The first edition of this fine album of views from Kotzebue's voyage of 1815-1818, in rare original parts. These impressive plates, dedicated to Alexandre de Humboldt, were not published in either Choris' Voyage Pittoresque (1822) or in Kotzebue's account of the voyage (published in Weimar, 1821), and include scenes in South America, Easter Island, Hawaii, Kamchatka, the Marianas, Manila, Cape of Good Hope and St. Helena. 6 parts, folio (426 x 284mm). 24 lithographed plates after drawings by Choris, 4 in each part (occasional very pale marks). This copy is without any text leaves, possibly an early proof or variant that is unrecorded in the standard bibliographies. Original printed pink wrappers (neatly rebacked, untrimmed, part 1 a little soiled and edge-worn); quarter morocco clamshell box. Provenance: Wayfarer's Bookshop.
