The first and only edition of one of the great rarities of Pacific exploration relating to the Northwest Coast of America. Published anonymously, this account of the Dixon-Portlock voyage is now attributed to Lauder, the surgeon on the Queen Charlotte. It includes many details omitted from the official report—particularly relating to the culture of the Hawaiian islands and the North Pacific. An advertisement announcing its publication declared it “a work more interesting to the curious reader than the voyages of Captain Cook, or any other circumnavigator.” Forbes 172; Howes P-496; Lada-Mocarski 44; Sabin 100817.

Octavo (205 x 125mm). Engraved frontispiece. Contemporary tree calf, red morocco label on spine (rebacked with original spine laid down). Provenance: Reg and Philip Remington, Books.
