The first edition of this largest of the “Blue Books.” It contains dozens of reports on the lost expedition of Sir John Franklin and subsequent attempts at recovery in both the Eastern and Western Arctic. The majority are based on Sir Edward Belcher’s 1852-54 expedition. Arctic Bib. 45245; Tourville 1832.
One volume bound in two, folio (324 x 203mm). iv, 958 pp. 34 maps, many large and folding and/or with color routes (some light scattered foxing, but overall contents clean). Contemporary green half calf (some scuffing, spines browned). Provenance: James Lamont (Scottish explorer, 1828-1913; Knockdow House bookplates, shelf labels) – Explorer Books.
