The first edition of the scientific manual prepared for the Nares expedition, from the library of F.L. McClintock. Under the care of geologist Thomas Rupert Jones, reports were drawn up by leading scientists for the use of the British Arctic Expedition under George Nares. This copy was owned by McClintock, who had discovered the first news of the tragic fate of the Franklin expedition during his 1857-9 exploration of King William Island. Chavanne 5314.
