A Herculaneum pottery plate
transfer-printed in black with a roundel of a lady waving at a vessel titled RETURNING HOPES above a rhyme, the border printed with loose sprays of flowers, impressed mark and 15 -- 25.5cm., circa 1810 (two cracks, chipped to rim); and another moulded with leaves on a speckled ground enriched in a pale blue glaze, impressed marks -- 22cm. diam., early 19th century (chips to rim)
