President Eisenhower and the First Lady purchased a 690 acre farm and house outside Gettysburg, PA in 1950. The property served as a weekend retreat for the President and his family as well as a meeting center for dignitaries and world leaders. Upon leaving the White House in 1961, the farm became the permanent residence for the Eisenhowers. Presently known as the Eisenhower National Historic Site, the property is open to the public.
