Au cours de l'hiver 1765-1766, le roi de Pologne Stanislas-Auguste Poniatowski demande à l’architecte Victor Louis d’exécuter des dessins pour la restructuration et la décoration intérieure de son palais royal. Le présent dessin faisant parti de cet ensemble d’études, il aurait été donné à une ancêtre des actuels propriétaires lorsque celui-ci travaillait sur un des chantiers du palais royal. Il représente une allégorie de la Fortune, la Renommé et la Magnificence, entourées dans les écoinçons par des amours, des chèvres-pieds, des esclaves et un héros (op. cit.).
During the winter of 1765-1766, the Polish king Stanislas-Auguste Poniatowski commissioned the architect Victor Louis to redecorate the interior of the royal palace. The present drawing is part of the designs provided by the artist, and is said to have been given to an ancestor of the current owners when the latter was involved in the work at the palace. The design represents an allegory featuring Fortune, Fame and Magnificence, surrounded in the spandrels by putti, satyrs, slaves and a hero (op. cit.).
