Lot Essay

The sword-brandishing figures and the grotesque harpies seen on our textile relate directly to examples attributed to Skyros and dated to the 18th century published in Krody, 2008, cat. 4.1, 4.3 and 4.8, pp. 84, 86 and 89.
A Skyros panel with a central figure like the ones seen on this lot was sold at Christie’s London, 26 October 2017, lot 224.
