Lot Essay

Heuer introduced the Monaco reference 1133 in 1969 as part of a line of automatic chronographs. The self-winding chronograph was a completely new innovation at that time. The present Monaco reference 1133B features a blue dial with white registers, which inspired later re-editions. The Monaco model was equipped with an unusual square-shaped case made by Piquerez. Heuer secured an exclusive deal with Piquerez for these cases. This model remains particularly famous as Steve McQueen wore a similar Monaco reference 1133B in the car racing movie “Le Mans” and this version is often called “the Steve McQueen Monaco” as a result.
