Lot Essay

Offered in excellent overall condition, the present reference 16520 impresses by its very rare dial, bestowed with the prestigious Tiffany & Co. signature.

Legendary timepiece, the reference 16520 was the first chronograph of the Rolex manufacture to encompass an automatic movement derived from a Zenith ébauche. Built with a larger case than its predecessors and a sapphire-crystal glass, the timepiece encountered great success and throughout the years, has become highly sought-after by collectors.

Of supreme importance, the present watch is not only part of this coveted reference but is distinguished by its prestigious heritage. Part of an important private collection, the chronograph was cherished with care throughout the years and exemplifies the very famous relationship between Rolex and the American jeweller Tiffany & Co. With the signature displayed below the “Cosmograph” script, the timepiece furthermore displays the inverted 6 to the chronograph hour subsidiary dial.

A similar example is illustrated and described in: Ultimate Rolex Daytona, Pucci Papaleo, pp. 552- 555.
