Lot Essay

This watercolor is one of at least three studies done for the finished work of the same title which sold at Christie's New York in November 1995. It is also likely the watercolor recorded in the Victor Spark archives (S.3107). This work is one of three studies that remained in the artist's collection until his death and were sold in the estate sale in 1883.
