WORLD WAR ONE – EGYPT AND PALESTINE – Three photograph albums. Egypt and Palestine: 1917-1919.
Interesting photographs of the Palestine Front during WWI, two from the same compiler, showing mounted troops, lines of Turkish prisoners and ambulance wagons loaded onto railway flatbeds. These two albums are uncaptioned, but show some interesting scenes of Egypt, including funerals and nationalist demonstrations. The third album shows the front line and trenches of the Gaza front, ammunition limbers, tanks being unloaded from railway tank transporters, quartermaster stores, wells and feeding stations.
1. 123 photographs (various sizes, but most 53 x 77mm) mounted on 12 leaves, octavo (250 x 1482mm). Original half cloth over imitation crocodile paper-covered boards (inscribed in ink on upper cover, extremities lightly rubbed and soiled); 2. 102 photographs (oval and rectangular 53 x 77mm, mounted on 14 leaves, oblong octavo (150 x 220mm). Original cloth (name erased from upper cover, light soiling to covers); 3. 2nd Lieut. B.H. PORTNAY. 16 photographs (72 x 98mm and 52 x 72mm) mounted on 8 leaves, octavo (239 x 160mm). Original green cloth.
