Der Journalist und Fürsprecher Hodlers, Mathias Morhardt (1863-1939), der mit seinen Artikeln massgebend zur Verbreitung des Werks von Ferdinand Hodler beitrug, ist in Dreiviertelansicht dargestellt. Dank der Quadrierung konnte Hodler diese Studie als Vorlage für die erste Fassung des Bildnisses von Morhardt von 1911 verwenden.
This is a three-quarter view depiction of the journalist and Hodler's advocate, Mathias Morhardt (1863-1939) whose articles played a major role in making Ferdinand Hodler’s works more well-known. Thanks to the squaring of the image, Hodler was able to use this study as a template for the first version of the portrait he made of Morhardt, in 1911.
