This superb celadon porcelain vase is mounted with finely chased ormolu-mounts designed with aquatic elements and relates to a pair in Wrightsman collection, Metropolitan Museum, New York (inv. 244.A.B.) and to another example now at the Wallace collection, London (inv. F105-6).
The marchand-mercier Lazare Duvaux sold several ewers in celadon porcelain mounted by the bronzier Jean-Claude Duplessis between 13 September 1750 and 15 June 1754, including a pair delivered to Madame de Pompadour in December 1751 for 1,680 livres.
