Lot Essay

Reference 2526 was the landmark model chosen by Patek Philippe to be given the privilege of housing the first automatic calibre ever made by the company, the famous 12'''-600. This movement, wound by an oscillating 18k gold engine-turned rotor is regarded by many as the most highly finished automatic movement ever made by any manufacturer.

The "twenty five-twenty six" was mostly cased in yellow gold and a smaller number including the present watch, in pink gold which were mostly intended for the South American market. Reference 2526 is always a masterpiece, regardless of the case material, furthermore it has gained cult status amongst watch collectors for its beautiful cream-coloured enamel dial. The mellow egg-shell tint displayed by the 2526 dials ensures that today the model enjoys considerable and growing popularity amongst collectors of vintage Patek Philippe.

The present watch is granted a further level of desirability being fitted with a pink gold bracelet of the highest quality. The gold bracelets provided for the reference 2526 are always removable, some were in the more traditional brick-link design, others of more fanciful shape and construction. The version used for this watch is certainly the most lavish bracelet type where the central links resemble scallops.

It is furthermore accompanied by the original Certificate and sales receipt.

Other examples of reference 2526 are illustrated in:
Patek Philippe Wristwatches, Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, first édition, pp. 168-169 and second édition, pp. 213, 216-217.
