Lot Essay

The reference 6239, introduced in 1963, was the first Rolex chronograph to carry the legendary Daytona name, but while the name is now embedded in the mind of all serious watch enthusiasts, it did not appear on all early models. Different variations of printing emerged in the coming years with several fonts and sizes of "Daytona". Some of them were in small print or in a floating position, or in a "jumbo" print such as the present example. The black dial of this example is well preserved with original aged, warm tone luminous material and an early, slim and straight small seconds hand.
