Lot Essay

This miniature warrior carrying a sword in front of his body may be an early representation of the Greek hero Perseus. Images of him in Greek art slaying the gorgon Medusa depict him carrying his sword with elbows held outwards, as in this bronze figure. For an Archaic bronze example see J.-L.
