FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTIONThis collection began with the establishment of the L Gallery in Hong Kong in the early 1980s. This gallery sold the paintings of many contemporary artists of the day and provided the owners with opportunities to meet many of them. At the end of the decade, the gallery was closed and the owner of these paintings moved to the United States. As in classical times, he enjoyed his collection of paintings and calligraphy in his leisure time away from his medical career.

Lot Essay

Born in Chang’an (present-day Xi’an in Shaanxi prvince), Wang Ziwu graduated from the Xi’an Fine Art Academy in 1963. He has had an illustrious career as an artist and educator, and has held offices in many influential art schools and associations.
