Lot Essay

NMH2753/1863 ; op. cit., D.15), l'autre au Metropolitan Museum of Arts de New York (inv.

This previously unpublished drawing has completed the body of preparatory studies for the Presentation of the Virgin at the Musée des Augustins, Toulouse (inv. RO. 134). Two further drawings are studies of the Virgin as a child, one at the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, the other at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. 1980.321; op. cit., no. D.16). A compositional study squared in red chalk featuring a reverse image of the painting is also in Stockholm (inv. NMH2753/1863; see op. cit., no. D. 14). We are grateful to Clémentine Gustin- Gomez for her help in preparing this catalogue note.
