Lot Essay

The present wristwatch is a well-preserved representative of the Daytona reference 6263, featuring the very coveted black dial with the attractive big red “Daytona” script and contrasting subsidiary registers.

The dial is preserved in very good original overall condition, free from any cosmetic enhancement, the case displays sharp edges and crisp and legible serial numbers.

A reference point for Daytona collectors, the Rolex chronograph reference 6263 has become throughout the years one of the most sought after Rolex timepieces. Introduced in 1969, the 6263 is the sister reference of the 6265 and replaced the first oyster chronograph, reference 6240. Offered with the upgraded caliber 727 as well as screw down pushers enhancing waterproof abilities, the timepiece bears the “Oyster” designation on the upper-half of its dial and differed from the 6265 through its black bezel graduated to 200 units

A similar example is illustrated and described in: Ultimate Rolex Daytona, Pucci Papaleo, pp. 448-450
