Lot Essay

The present ref. 1806 is a very well-preserved representative of the famous Day-Date model. Its attractiveness is further increased by the unusual and sought-after champagne dial with golden relief numerals in Arabic script and by its extremely rare and noteworthy golden linen-textured decoration pattern bracelet. Furthermore the day and date calendar indications are in Arabic font.

A true icon within the world of vintage watch collecting, the birth of the Day-Date can be traced back to 1956, it quickly became one of the most celebrated models of the Geneva manufacture. Created in an impressive variety of models, showcasing the creativity of the firm and representing there aim to follow the evolving tastes of their customers as well as requirements of some of their most demanding clients.

Ref. 1806 can be considered as one of the rarest Day-Date models ever produced by the celebrated firm and only very few are in such an attractive condition. The dial impresses with its non-restored condition, the extremely well preserved creamy luminous dots, perfectly matched to the luminescent material of the golden hands. The unusual golden bracelet is in a perfect condition its case features distinct lines and was very professionally polished, if at all, in earlier years. The serial and reference numbers are easily legible.

Comprised of very elegant and rare variants, the wristwatch offered here for sale highlights the life-long passion of the collector towards the Day-Date, having searched for highly specific examples with dials featuring rare finishes or made of natural hardstone such as Malachite or Howlite.
