Lot Essay
Originally manufactured as a jump hour pocket watch in the 192’s, the present timepiece was converted to a very elegant pocket watch in 1939 upon the owner’s request. The dial, now a most appealing two-tone rose version, and the pendant were changed to an up-to date design.
Converting a watch to a more contemporary appearance was a quite common thing to do in the early 20th Century. Presumably the original owner of the present piece must have presented his request to his local retailer (Hausmann & Co) who got in touch with the manufacture to proceed to the modification on the watch.

Hausmann & Co. was founded in Rome in 1794 by Ernst Hausmann, a young German clockmaker and his friend and partner Hermann Frielingsdorf. The firm is still residing in the same premises in Rome's historical centre and represents the world's most prestigious watch and clock manufacturers.
