On oval domed base with dolphin stem and fluted bowl chased with fruit and flowers, the detachable cover similarly chased and with detachable foliate scroll handle, marked on foot, stem, body, cover and handle

Lot Essay

Zacharias Holhagen, a goldsmith from Konigsberg/Ostpreussen moved to Nuremberg in 1670. In 1687, he bigamously married his second wife in Berlin and only returned to Nuremberg after his first wife's death in 1691.
