The Leonardo Da Vinci Cut ® was inspired by the famous late 15th century treatise De Divina Proportione by Luca Pacioli, illustrated with sixty drawings by Leonardo da Vinci. The great Master defines mathematically divine proportion also known as the Golden Ratio and discusses its application to art, architecture, letter design and the perception of human beauty. The Golden Ratio Ø = 1,618 is considered as the basis of harmonious proportion and when seen in nature immediately appeals to the human eye.
The involvement of the Biblioteca Leonardiano and the Museo Leonardiano of Vinci was fundamental to the research and development of this new cut. Each institution places a strong emphasis on continuing Leonardo da Vinci’s legacy, supporting technical innovation and showcasing the immense talent and ingenuity of the man. This year a series of events and exhibitions are taking place around the world to mark the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death and this innovative diamond cut demonstrates that the influence of his life and work is still as relevant as ever.
The Leonardo Da Vinci Cut ® has 57 facets and through a series of calculations based on the proportions of Leonardo’s ‘Vitruvian man’ the stone has a high degree of scintillation, a unique pentagonal table, and in larger stones a kaleidoscopic overlay effect whereby three ‘stars’ appear visible to the naked eye.
The main Gemmological Institutes in the world have recognised the uniqueness of the Leonardo Da Vinci Cut ®
