APOLLO LUNAR SURFACE SAMPLE BAG – Rectangular Type Lunar Sample Collection Bag.
A training bag for the collection of lunar material such as rock and soil on the last three Apollo missions.
The aluminum top splits open, and the dual tabs provide easy closure by a pressurized space suit glove. The Lunar Rover was a battery-powered vehicle used on the last three missions, Apollo 15, 16 and 17. The rover extended the mileage distance for lunar surface exploration, allowing more samples to be collected than the first three landings combined. Bags of this type were utilized to gather and secure the samples obtained on these flights.
Approximately 8 inches wide at the top, constructed of aluminum and plastic.
