Artist's… Read more PROPERTY OF THE NATIONAL ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS SOCIETYIn 1986, Elisabeth Frink was approached to create a sculpture for the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS), a UK charity focused on providing specialist support, advice and the most up-to-date information to empower everyone with ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic condition in which the spine and other areas of the body become inflamed. This condition was close to Frink's heart, as her son was diagnosed as having it only two years previously. The sculpture was to be presented as an award to medical personnel who have contributed outstanding research into this disease. Fifteen casts were made, with the generosity of Ken Cook who donated his time and the materials for the sculptures to be cast at his foundry. The present cast has remained with NASS since its conception, and is being sold to further benefit the charity.
